PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD – Orchestra Version 1.1 RC2

This proposal from the FIX Orchestra Subcommittee provides the details of the Orchestra Technical Standard Version 1.1 Release Candidate 2. It has been approved for public comment by the FIX Global Technical Committee.

Orchestra was conceived as machine readable rules of engagement between counterparties. As such, it is a standard for exchange of metadata about the data elements and behaviour of electronic interfaces (FIX and non-FIX). Orchestra cuts time to on-board counterparties and improves accuracy of implementations. It can also be used to capture interface documentation and generate Rules of Engagement documents for clients.

The documents for the second release candidate of Orchestra Version 1.1 can be found as follows:

Previous documents related to the Orchestra Standard can be found here.

These are the most important enhancements that Orchestra V1.1 RC2 provides compared to the first Release Candidate of Orchestra V1.1:

  • Support for references between scenarios, whereby the referencing scenario is equal to or a subset of the referenced scenario in terms of the elements (or codes) in each of the two scenarios.
  • Recommendation of Dublin Core terms to be used in general and specifically for the generation of documents.
  • Addition of new documentation purposes CAPTION, TOOLTIP, and DEFINITION and definition of semantics for all purposes.
  • Support for optional field names for correlations and assignments in the definition of response messages for a workflow.
  • Clarification of attribute changeType to distinguish definitional from purely editorial updates when the pedigree attributes indicate a modification of the specification.

The proposal is following the technical standards review process described in the document found here. The Orchestra Subcommittee continues to work on the third release candidate. There are already a number of issues that have been documented in the GitHub project of the FIX Trading Community for RC3.

  • New Orchestra Schema issues and pull requests can be entered here.
  • New Orchestra Technical Specification issues and pull requests can be entered here.
