Relations between FIXML and FIX

Dear Mr/Mrs!

Our company is currently implementing FIX and FIXML. But we have been confronted with some difficulties. Please accept our sincere apologies for spending your time.
Could we ask you some questions about FIX and FIXML?

  1. How FIXML-aware server determines in which mode client will work – in “tag value” mode or “FIXML” mode?
  2. Should FIXML-aware server during session be able to process both “tag value” and FIXML messages? For example assume server and client exchange by messages in “tag-value” format and suddenly the client sends FIXML message. Should server refuse, ignore or accept it?
  3. Why FIXML specification doesn’t contain administrative messages at all? Does it mean that server and client should use “tag-value“ administrative messages in FIXML session or does it mean that the role of administrative messages should be implemented by transport level?
  4. Why message “Confirmation_Ack” contains underscore in its name? All other messages haven’t such symbol. In FIX 4.4 specification there is not “Confirmation_Ack”, it is “ConfirmationAck” instead it.
