Security Definition vs Security List Request

Hi,

We are adding a FIX interface to our exchange/order management system. If we want to
provide users with a function for listing the securities available for trading, I believe we would use the Security List Request message. Or should we use Security Defintion Request message ? Is there a common practise for how this should be handled ?
