Are there any major differences of Session Maintenance in FIX 4.2 and FIX 5.0?

No, there are not. However, the vagueness of your question may not address specific questions you have. The FIX session has its name and specification as of FIX 5, i.e. FIX Transport (FIXT 1.1). A few extensions have been made to the FIX session layer that you can take advantage of with FIX 5.
