Hi,
According to my understanding, a FIX session has to be agreed on both sides, and is not starting every time that a Logon is performed.
This means that, physical connections can start and stop occasionally (performing the Logon process every reconnection, and maybe even Logout process in some disconnections), the FIX session MUST continue. I.e. the sequnece numbers continue to grow.
A reset of the sequence numbers (meaning end of a FIX session) can be performed on-line (from version 4.2) or off-line, on an agreed time.
The above is not agreeing with the sentence on page 11 of the FIX 4.2 specifications:
"A FIX session is comprised of three parts: Logon, Message exchange and Logout".
It may imply that when an orderly logout is performed, an automatic RESET and a new FIX session must start on the next connection.
Can anybody confirm the definition of a FIX session?
