I realize there is a matrix in Appendix D of the FIX 4.2 Specification. The cells with stars are exemplified in the grids after it. However, the disclaimer states that a lack of a star does not mean the transition is not allowed.
Can anyone tell me where to find a graph of what state transitions are indeed allowed? Or is it a matter of what I choose to implement?
In particular, can I make the following transitions?
Pending New -> Pending Replace -> Replaced -> New
Pending New -> New -> Pending Replace -> Replaced -> New
Thanks

Have a look at the recent threads named “OrdStatus = Pending New” and “CancelReplace and Order Status”. Here you can find some discussions about state transitions.
In particular, can I make the following transitions?
Pending New → Pending Replace → Replaced → New
Pending New → New → Pending Replace → Replaced → New
Except for the final transition to “New” all the above transitions look quite sensible to me. What is your intention behind the final “New”?
