This is a call for participation for a new FIX Protocol Subcommittee covering the development and maintenance of the FIX Protocol and FIXatdl®. We are looking for members to engage in improving the FIX Protocol documentation and associated tooling to bring everything up to date and make it easier to use and more accessible (including by machines).
We have a vast amount of documentation, but it is currently spread across multiple sources and only partially machine-readable. This is an opportunity for our community to bring ideas and, ideally, modern technological solutions to this area.
@yemioluwi, Orchestra and FIX Protocol are two of the three subcommittees below the Global Technical Committee. The Orchestra subcommittee focuses on the Orchestra standard which applies to FIX and non-FIX interfaces. The FIX Protocol subcommittee is intended to address the strategy for and management of the FIX Trading Community’s publicly available documentation material related to the application layer. The business driver is the recognition that FIX needs to provide comprehensive and easily accessible documentation of the FIX Protocol to support compliant usage across different asset classes, regions and user groups.
The connection is that the FIX Protocol uses the Orchestra standard to provide a machine-readable representation of FIX Latest (final version of FIX that is being extended from time to time). The Orchestra XML file for FIX Latest contains most of the core (normative) specification for the FIX Protocol.
