Is there a single place where one can browse example FIX messages. I’m specifically on the lookout for REPO, FRA and FX order messages. I have read vol 7 extensively but I think it would be convenient and helpful to others to have an examples section for the fixprotocol.org website (if one doesn’t already exist that I’m unaware of

This is a great idea - would you want to help with its creation. We have a set of example FIXML messages and there are some FIX message files - but I think a higher quality, more well maintained set of examples is called for. Maybe there are some other like minded volunteers that would like to participate in creating similar content that could then be maintained as part of the standard FIX offering.

I heard from Bill Nichols of R-Cube who has been setting up FPL’s mediawiki installation. His thought was that this is an ideal application for a Wiki. A couple of people could moderate then people could post examples as they were able as part of a coordinated effort.

The new FIXwiki – http://fixwiki.fixprotocol.org – has a list of messages and a page for each. At the bottom of the page is a place for notes. This would be an excellent place to start. You must register to login to the wiki, after that, it’s pretty straight forward if you are familiar with Wikipedia type sites.
If we have enough folks interested (which seems likely), we can put some thought into a more structured approach that includes things like category tagging and linking between message examples, etc. If there were a half dozen people interested in/willing to do part-time editorial tasks we could probably come up with very useful addition to the toolbox fairly quickly.

Hello,
Before I start populating the wiki with example messages, how (and where) would you suggest I add them?
For example, on http://fixwiki.fixprotocol.org/index.php/NewOrderSingle I could add a section called ‘Examples per Exchange’ (or some catchy title!) and add a 35=D example which we (Baxter) expect, and hope that other exchanges add their format too?
Do you have any ideas on this one?

On a per message basis, I would recommend starting with the Comments section that is at the bottom of the page for each listing. The only caveat is for examples of message that vary considerably by FIX release – we will probably need to associate those with the release number, which typically is linked into the bottom of each message page. Please let me know if this is not clear.
