In discussion forums search results displayed, it could be useful to have the following information at the top of the page, some examples:-
Your search for the exact phrase “heartbeat” in all discussion forums matched 10,000 posts in 800 threads in 9 discussion forums
Your search for all the terms “heartbeat”, “108”, “logon” in all discussion forums matched 1700 posts in 439 threads in 5 discussion forums
Your search for the exact phrase “testrequest” in General Q/A discussion forum match 180 post in 38 threads
In general, this informative text could be seen as
Your search for {radio-button search option} {“actual phrase or terms”} in {all or specific} discussion forum(s) matched {X} posts in {Y} threads {(optional) in Z discussion forums}
This would permit users of discussion forums search functionality to know what they searched for and size of resultset (how much they have to parse).

A word of caution on such suggestions which are generally welcome to enhance the services offered by FPL. However, FPL is a non-profit organization that largely depends on the payment of membership fees. There are still many more FIX users than FPL members. There is no large permanent staff that is looking for ideas to implement. I agree that the FPL discussion forums could be enhanced to be more in line with other forums with better search and navigational features. There are examples where technology was developed and tested outside independently from FPL and then donated to FPL and this approach has worked pretty well. FPL can and does implement incremental changes to existing tools and services.

What web technology does http://www.fixprotocol.org/ use? I am asking because if I come across anything open source freeware that could be useful here, I would be happy to share it with FIX webmasters.

I am not familiar with the tools used by FPL for their website but I believe there has not been any fundamental change in recent years.
