Hi Rick,
Thank you for your detailed reply.
Just to be sure, I would like to ensure that I have completely understood your reply by clarifying a couple of things. (Please bear with me - I like to be sure!)
-
The FIXatdl schemas are free to use as-is.
-
It is not recommended to extend the existing FIXatdl schemas. However, if I were to create an additional schema which included the extra functionality that I require for my application (and which would require me to import some of the standard FIXatdl schemas) - would this be an acceptable solution?
(I am asking this from two standpoints - a. not to do something illegal, b. not to antagonize the trading community.) -
When I say “ship”, I mean that my application would be installed at a customer location and would accept XML files that could be validated via the classes that are generated from the both, the standard FIXatdl Schema and (in addition) also my extended Schema. I do not intend to distribute the XSD files themselves.
Thanks,
PJ
Hello!
I am in the process of designing an algorithmic trading engine and came across the FIX ATDL (reference from a friend). I have gone through some of the literature available for the ATDL and have a series of questions (that may seem rather basic to experienced users) :
-
The FIX ATDL is a standard that defines the expression of algorithms/strategies and their parameters. Additionally, it provides a way to link UI elements to the expressed algorithms/strategies. Is this is an accurate understanding of the FIX ATDL?
-
Are the XSD Schemas provided by the FPL free for use in commercial applications? Specifically, can I use them in my FIXatdl documents and ship them with my application?
-
Am I allowed to extend the XML Schemas with application specific customizations? (And then ship them?)
-
I have some experience with the FIX protocol and understand that it can be extended for individual users/implementations and then published for downstream customers. Is this also the case with the FIXatdl specifications?
Thanks,
PJ
