Will there be a FIXML specification besides the DTD’s ? When will such specification be available for the public ?

We don’t intend to have a separate FIXML specification as one could view FIXML as one of the possible data formats for the FIX Protocol Application messages ( ie tag=value vs. XML).
In later versions of the specification we could add XML support to the specification which is supported by application notes on how to handle XML based messaging with the FIX Protocol. This is something that will be focused on this year.

I’ve just placed two files in the archive of the FIXML Working Group.
FIXML1.2.zip contains the DTDs and release notes for FIXML 1.2 which is based on FIX 4.1.
FIXMLDesign1.2.doc is a document which contains the design rules used for the FIXML 1.2 release.
Substantial changes were made in this release with two major goals in mind: simplicity and consistency.
In order to prepare for the DTDs based on FIX 4.2 (due mid-October) we needed to create design rules that will make the transition easier.
