How job seekers can find firms that need FIX specialists

Imported from previous forum

I’m currently seeking new opportunities and have noticed the market right now is a bit limited to say the least. Rather than end up in a job I don’t really want, I thought maybe I should think outside the box and expand my search to firms I don’t even know about yet.

In the past and currently I’ve been mostly looking at the same firms that I’ve always worked with and been submitted to over the last 10+ years. Can anybody suggest the best way for me to identify new/more firms that need FIX support personnel? I’m going to check now, but my first thought is this site. I think there are a list of FPL members somewhere and that is a good starting point. How do I find firms that are not listed here though?

Maybe, FIX is so popular on the street that simply identifying any investment banking firm or vender that supports them might do?

Thanks!

OK, so there are a LOT of FPL member firms. I think that list should be sufficient perhaps.

In my experience a LinkedIn profile with the right keywords in your Specialities section should be all you need these days to have agents contacting you with a regular flow of opportunities.

The point however is to move beyond the dozens and dozens of agencies that find your resume on LinkedIn and Monster. There is most definitely a hidden job market. There are firms who perhaps don’t use agencies or who use agencies that use unorthodox methods of talent acquisition.

Networking is one method to find the “hidden” jobs but that still limits it to your pool of contacts and your career thus far. What about the firms you don’t know about that may have great opportunities for you?

P.S. Agencies seem to all call about the same firms and even the exact same jobs as well. This to me is limiting in this market. This is a time to think “outside the box”.

Try the trade shows, FPL annual conference, vendor contacts are great too as they touch multiple points in the market.
