How to flatten fixml/xml

Imported from previous forum

Hi,
Just moved to fixml world, and still having bunch of processing in mvs,
what would be the best scenario to flatten fixml files to be used in mainframe processing (fixed length, predefined field length).

So far looking at cobol parse command, but surely should be other option.

Tx to all.
Mario

I would be inclined to write a utility on the non MVS side to write the FIXML in to a flat file - or records in MQSeries

Hi Mario,

If you are interested in a commercial solution please post this question to the Product Discussion forum. I can direct you to a product that does just what you’re looking for.

Robert

Mario, I use a commercial product that auto-generates flattened XML.

If you’re interested please post your question in the Product Discussion or Help Wanted forum.

Tx to all, guys.
I don’t really have an option to go for commercial product.
i thought that there is some simple solution utilizing .xsd schema and some build in engine.

I wrote some code to read FIXML plus FIX schemas and output tags.
But I don’t think that all the information needed is present in the FIXML schemas, even with the Xref extensions present.

Hi Mario, I have no experience in MVS world so I don’t know if this post will be helpful, but I had success using XSLT to flat a FIXML to FIX and convert FIXML to Quickfix XML over windows and linux, probably the templates could be adapted to solve your problem… I’m supossing there is a decent xslt engine in mvs (sorry for my ignorance in this topic)

Mario,

Actually the CAM processor tool will do this for you easily!

XML Editor/Validator/Designer with CAMV download | SourceForge.net

Steps -

  1. File / New Template / From XSD schema

    • import your schema
  2. File / Export / Template as XSD and pick the default mode.

It will produce one simple schema set.

Enjoy, DW
