NEW YORK, October 9, 2002 — Today Aegis Software Inc., New York-based provider of trading software, announced “Exchange Simulator,” an automated test environment which simulates popular FIX and CMS-based exchanges and ECNs, such as NYSE, AMEX, Island, Arca, and Instinet. The software allows developers, QA engineers and production support departments to control a virtual exchange/ECN and use it to verify their own trade or order management system.
“Brokerage and other trading firms are very dependent on the exchanges, who decide when and for how long QA departments have access for testing,” said Norm Friedman, Vice President, Aegis Software. “This results in erratic and often incomplete testing. Exchange Simulator provides a hands-on, automated environment that is always available to validate that a trading system is robust and ready to trade without error.”
The Exchange Simulator supports scenarios that include: low-level message testing, exchange rule testing, performance testing, automated regression testing and the recreation of production problems. Upcoming releases of the product will support European and Asian exchanges. Licensees of the product include Lehman Brothers, Millennium Partners and ADP Brokerage Services.

i’m curious about this announcement–maybe you could clarify this posting a little bit.
what exactly do you mean when you say exchange simulation? as i’m sure you know, the trickiness around testing with ECNs and exchanges is in the matching engine behavior. are you saying that you “simulate” all the special order handling options like ExpireTime, Discretion, EffectiveTime, etc.?
more importantly: have you worked directly with NYSE, AMEX, Island, Arca, and Instinet to ensure that your simulations are accurate? the reason i ask is some of these companies have been ttCERT customers for a long time and the people i talk seem as surprised by this announcement as i was. And to the best of my knowledge, you haven’t certified your simulators for these companies.
