NEW YORK, September 6, 2002 — Today Aegis Software Inc., New York-based provider of testing software for trading systems, exchanges, and ECNs, announced the deployment of their “Client Simulator” test product at the International Securities Exchange (ISE). ISE is using Client Simulator to simulate customer order flow for the testing of their FIX order routing system.

Client Simulator simulates inbound, buy-side client order flow to a broker-dealer, exchange or ECN operating in various versions of the FIX protocol. It provides developers, QA engineers and production support personnel with real-world client simulations for interactive manual and automated testing, regression testing, and performance analysis.

“Prior to Client Simulator, we needed assistance from our member firms in order to test our FIX interface,” said Dan Friel, Senior Vice President and CIO, ISE. “When Aegis delivered their product, we were up and running quickly and were exercising most of the basic functionality of our order processing platform. After a week, a significant percentage of our QA testing processes were automated and today we can simulate virtually any scenario and test virtually any combination of transaction types rapidly, efficiently and reliably.”

“Client Simulator is all about making testing fast, easy and reproducible,” said Joseph Horowitz, Director of Software Development, Aegis Software. “It has the ability to simulate any buy-side order flow, no matter what flavor of FIX is being used. For example, ISE’s messages use custom FIX tags and we were able to configure the tags and communicate with ISE’s exchange very quickly. We spent one week onsite helping ISE’s staff deploy a test harness that would automate their FIX regression tests. Segue’s SilkTest was the final component in this effort, managing the tests and controlling the Client Simulator to automatically send FIX messages and validate the responses returned. ISE continues to enhance and expand their test coverage, and Client Simulator has helped make it an easy task.”
