In 2007, MiFID supported the introduction of competition to the EU exchanges and various investor protection measures, in addition to many further market changes. It has been five years since the directive originally came into play and the markets are bracing themselves for a new wave of regulation.
MiFID II arrives in the context of the financial crisis, trading model developments and technical advancements and pushes for ever greater transparency. Radically reforming the EU financial markets, it will fundamentally change the way financial instruments are traded and transform established business models.
