Last month Fix Protocol Ltd. (FPL) issued a joint statement of understanding with SWIFT Standards by agreeing to adopt the schemas produced under the new ISO 15022 XML. The schemas are being created under the auspices of an ISO sanctioned working group, known as ISO/TC 68/SC 4/WG10, a.k.a. Working Group 10 (WG10). FPL has been granted Liaison A status by ISO, which allows us to work with WG10 to model and migrate of FIX messages into the new repository.
To achieve this goal, FPL is now committed to forming a working group, called the ISO-XML Working Group. We are soliciting the FIX community at large for qualified individuals to participate on this project. With the exception of the chairperson, candidates for this working group are not required to be direct members of FPL. Emphasis is placed on the individual’s experience, i.e., we need people who are knowledgeable and passionate about FIX and who can ensure that FIX functionality can be successfully migrated to the new repository. Please note that this project and the creation of this working group have no immediate impact on FIXML.
To support this team, a working group section was created on the FIX website, called “ISO XML”. The Resource Archive section of this area contains various documents that describe this effort, both from an ISO/industry perspective as well as FPL’s. As with any project of this nature, there is a time and work commitment for all volunteers. The document titled “ISO-XML Workgroup Requirements” describes the estimated time commitments as well as skill requirements for anyone interested in joining the working group.
