Special Instruction orders pulled back from exchange (IOC & FOK)

When an order has a special instruction of immediate or cancel (IOC) or fill or kill (FOK) the executing exchange must cancel or kill all or part of the order. How does the executing exchange advise the order entry venue that the order, or in the case of an IOC, part of the order has been canceled / killed?

In my experience, the executing party will send an ‘unsolicited’ cancel in that event, i.e., an
Execution Report with OrdStatus = Canceled.
