Hi,

In India, there are multiple exchanges of Equity and Derivatives. The exchange codes for National Stock Exchange (NS) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BO) are defined. I would like to know the exchange codes for the following Exchnages:

  1. Multi-Commodity Exchange - MCX
  2. Currency exchange of MCX - MCXSX
  3. National Commodity & Derivative Exchange - NCDEX

What is the process of adding new exchanges in FIX Exchange codes?

First off, for FIX 4.3 and above, FPL doesn’t assign exchange codes at all; these are ISO MIC codes, which are the ISO 10383 standard. The list of MIC codes, as well as forms for requesting new MIC codes if they don’t exist, are available at this URL:

http://www.iso15022.org/MIC/homepageMIC.htm

For FIX 4.2 and below, FIX uses Reuters exchange codes, and we assign numeric codes for any exchanges that don’t have Reuters codes assigned. These are listed here:

http://fixprotocol.org/specifications/exchanges.shtml

There is a second tab for the numeric FPL-assigned exchange codes.

Requests for numeric exchange codes can be made to fpl@fixprotocol.org, however we request that someone from the exchange itself makes the request.

Currently we are on Fix 4.2 and therefore was looking on for the Reuter’s code. The required list of exchanges are not available in the link provided. I had already verified the same before raising the query.

Shakir - did u click on the 2nd tab (assigned numeric values)?
Anyway - even if you did not find the ones that you are looking for here, it is quiet possible that Reuter’s themselves hasn’t assigned an exchange code for these exchanges (did u check with reuters?)

As far as i know - Indian exchanges were not directly communicating FIX till very recently. If they have, it would be nice to have them get their own exchange code added to FPL…
