FIX community,
I’m new to FIX and I’ve been reading through the specs, discussion forum, and the archives. I just wanted to ask two general questions.
-
How active is this forum?
-
The ppt files in archives state that FIX 4.0 has, by far, the greatest market. Is this still true?

General Q/A is fairly active. When you include the other discussion groups, especially 4.4 Changes since we’re now drafting FIX 4.4, there’s quite a bit more activity.

For US equities, I still believe this is the case. 4.0 was what was current when FIX hit critical mass in the US equities market, and Y2K pretty much forced 3.0 users to upgrade to 4.0. A lot of them have stayed there.
Now US derivatives markets started coming online with FIX 4.2. I’d imagine that non-equity asset classes would end up using 4.2/4.3 since these vesions added expanded support for more asset classes.
Similarly, a lot of work went into FIX 4.2/4.3 to add support for several Asia/Pac area markets. FIX 4.2 was the first to add support for multiple character sets.
