I work for SIG, and a good percentage of my work week if FIX Testing, either with our 3rd party vendor or with our customers. Our protocol between client and server if FIXED based. Our customers can connect to us with FIX 4.0,4.1,4.2, or 4.4. We need to handle and version. So from my perspective, FIX Testing is not dead by any means.

Hi Everyone,
I think this is the right place to post my query about FIX Testing . I have been searching for urgent information about FIX .
Is anyone aware of any load testing designed for FIX protocol.
Please respond to this message if you have any information.

Hi Rashi ,
Load testing can be accomplished either using commercially available simulators for FIX (VeriFIX etc). You could also use API level load testing based whether you have access to them or not. One more alternative is to use load testing tools like loadrunner etc for this.
All, we(Wipro Technologies) do different types of FIX testing for our customers in the securities space. FIX Testing is a lively world…

Hi Pandiyan,
Let me define levels of “FIX Community” as
Individual - Single person(myFIX for me) - Accepted that FIX testing (and development) at an individual level is a very lively and interesting thing.
Firm - A single Buy side / Sell side / ECN / Exchange / Broker / DMA / Vendor / etc. - More and more of these are moving into / adding FIX.
FIXProtocol.org - This website and by its proclamation “All FIX on Earth” - Newer version of the protocol FIXT.1.1 / FIX.5.0 have been released after FIX.4.4 was released, Algo trading has been released,…so lively.
I am benchmarking to 4 because Certification working group was created for version 4 only for Fixed Income because other asset classes could not afford the prohibitive cost of FIX Certification.
My restated question is "Is FPL the Organization’s interest in FIX certification Gratefully Dead? more specifically "Is FPL Management’s interest towards providing FIX Certification documentation for “all FIX” Gratefully Dead?
When I say All FIX, I am not meaning - start writing FIX Certification documents from FIX 4.0 onwards to FIX.X.Y
because as we document from 4.0 onwards, newer versions of FIX may come into existence
Be able to provide Certification documents for newer releases / features.
Signs of no life ie. dead are
-
FIXT.1.1 testcases exist, but there are no easy links to it from the main page.
-
FIX.4.4 Fixed Income documents webpage http://www.fixprotocol.org/cert/ does not have a easy access link from this website’s home page. or spec page.
3)Certification Working Group is inactive
- My post http://www.fixprotocol.org/discuss/read/25878f0d received no replies.
So we are both right in our observations - FIX Certification at an individual level is lively, at FPL / FIX World level is unfortunately Gratefully Dead, may God give peace to the dead and the courage to the living to bear the loss.
Amen.

Hi Daniel,
I agree the Certification program was initially designed to assist Fixed Income “community”, it lived thru a birth, a life and now its “Dead”
I was just wondering why only FIXed Income community is interested in FIX certification ?
http://fixprotocol.org/discuss/read/a50b224a
I believe 50% of Software Engineering is development and 50% is testing because testing verifies the software developed is correct. Users are all the time testing software though not by choice and users unlike testers dislike Exception stack traces / bugs crawling out mid session.
I see two options here
-
Revieve Certification Working Group by making it active
-
If 1) cannot be done, create a new “FIX Certification Committee”. Advantage with this is a commitee would never become inactive
like some working groups become inactive.
Reviving interest in FIX Certification / Application testing would
-
Help attract many new technologists to FIX.
-
Help FIX implementors validate their implementation.
Though all areas need FIX certification documentation, special focus at the moment is needed for FIX.5.0 SP1 Application messages and Algorithmic trading.
For FIXT.1.1, testcases are available in the spec, but there is no link / mention of this in the cerification webpage at
Dear FPL Management,
I would request you to give a new life by rebirth to FIX Certification and this life is for all asset classes which were deprived of their right to certification because even though the other asset classes community may not have a FIXed income, but these folks without assets or with other assets also deserve to certify and have the undeniable right to seek certification:-(
