A friend of mine has downloaded your app on his phone and showed it to me.
Seriously, what’s the point of this app. ?

Do you really expect people to navigate the FIX dictionary on their Iphone ? Why would they do that ?

I 've been working with FIX for 3 years now and been struggling to get decent tools to help me in my daily job.
So it frustrates me to see a company like yours, which claims to be fully specialized in FIX, developing a useless toy.

By the way, FIX dictionary and FIXImate have been around for donkey years now so it’s not an ‘overlooked’ area, as claimed in your site.

Hi Alberico,

If you don’t like this, ok, that’s fine. But why the attack?

Perhaps if you read this part

Hi,

I can well imagine that someone might find it useful to have access to the FIX dictionary whilst on the move - for example in a meeting or on a customer site. Also people providing out of hour’s support often need to work offsite.

Cheers,
George.

I have just downloaded the app and had a play. It is a nifty little app that allows me to do quick look-ups by FIX version tag, component and message type.

Very useful for when on the road and i don’t have direct access to FIXiMate.

Nice job.

And it’s free!

Well Raj Rajbamjee/ alberico antonelli - not sure who you really are.

I thought the first email was actually a good one. Why when the industry needs better tools that really increase the value of the FIX Protocol did we create a simple “toy” application that is a portable viewer of the specification? I thought this a legitimate question to ponder. Despite your troll status and what appears to be some issue or hatred in reaction to the release of FIX Explorer Mobile, I want to answer the question “why?”

First, our team works extremely hard on tools that with each release are truly going to improve the value proposition of the FIX Protocol. And much of this work is just plain in the trenches hard work. We have some excellent mobile phone development expertise on staff and we wanted to reward our development team with something that would be a bit different and more enjoyable from the tough work in supporting sophisticated commercial software offerings.

Second, we have always done quite a bit for the FIX Protocol, but that has provided an incredible return to us as a company. We are fortunate this year to be in a position to give something back to the FIX Community, via which we are building Lasalletech.

Third, it is a nice marketing piece - kind of a mobile “business card” for Lasalletech.

Fourth, I am helping a major exchange whose initials begin with “C” and the folks there only talk in tag numbers. Being an old man even though I was probably responsible for about a third of this tag explosion in FIX - I don’t know most of them by number. So I pushed our head of software development to give me a tool that I can use in meetings to quickly access the FIX Specification. And it is working well - I am a very happy user.

Regarding your “toy” comment - please try and build a similar application - see how easy it is to get a performant search and browser function working for such as large specification.

Lastly, I appreciate the productivity and the nice multitasking you achieved by using FIX Explorer in the bathroom. Please remember though to use proper hygiene because after all, the iPhone is a touch screen interface.

Great answer, Jim. We at MACD really enjoyed it

Hi Jim,

Good reply.

it is a nice tool, no doubt about it.

Any plans to make it available for blackberry too?

Cheers,

Shakeel

Shakeel

No plans for a BlackBerry version. I have heard of another firm working on a version for the BlackBerry.

Hi Jim,

do you know which company provides a BlackBerry version?
Or do you plan to do one now?

Hey Jim,

Nice work! I don’t have an iPhone, but I loaded it on my wife’s iPod Touch and it runs great. This is going to be nice to have if you’re a support person and you’re away from your desk when you get a call, or if you’re on travel or whatever.

It’s also great to seem more free FIX tools in the wild!

Cheers,

Russ
